I AM YOU (2019) is an independent feature film based on the stories of the world’s many refugees, their love for people and life, and the conditions that precipitated their extraordinarily heroic journeys.
SYNOPSIS
I AM YOU follows the journey of Masoud, a young refugee who embarks on a perilous migration from Afghanistan into the unknown. Masoud vows to honor his late-father’s memory by securing a safe future for his mother and sister. As he and his family flee the country they once called home, he is accompanied by his best friend, an aged spiritual muslim warrior, and a pregnant doctor.
Inspired by the stories of the world’s many refugees and their journeys to hope, I AM YOU is an evocative, empathetic study of our current refugee crisis.
At the time of writing, the number of people forcibly displaced from their homes is the highest since World War II. 65.6 million people are currently living as refugees or as displaced persons inside their countries. More than half of the world’s refugees are under the age of 18 with many children fleeing alone or separated from their parents. Despite governments’ and organizations’ efforts to alleviate the conditions of these refugees and those who embark on cumbersome odysseys, the situation continues to be highly critical.
